The AKG C 5600 is a large-diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone from the early 1990s. It is a large-diaphragm studio model that has been made "road-ready" to cope with the harsh conditions of live music on stage. As a result, the sound quality is achieved for the first time, which is otherwise more likely to be heard in studio recordings.
The capsule was AKG's first large-diaphragm model, which was supposed to sound like the legendary AKG C 12 tube, C 12A, C 414 comb and C 414 ULS condenser microphones.
Because these mics have two true condenser caps (to allow for different polar patterns) and the AKG C 5600 only has a single gold foil cone electret capsule, it was much cheaper to manufacture but still delivered great sound. Two roll-off switches; -6dB and -12dB at 150Hz can limit bass, a built-in adjustable stand adapter completes the design.
So it's kind of a "poor man's version" of the formerly famous studio microphones, C12, C12a, C412, C414, which can be used for many purposes: electric guitar, vocals, voice-overs, piano, overheads, wind instruments, Bass and drums: in short, a great all-rounder. Unfortunately, the AKG 'TRIPOWER' series never really caught on and production of this line of triangular design models was discontinued. That's a shame, because this robust condenser microphone is really worthwhile and impresses both in the studio and on stage. These microphones are often sought after on the used market, as you can read in various forums.
