The AKG D224 C is a dynamic two-way studio microphone with a cardioid polar pattern (two-way cardioid microphone). It has two built-in transducer systems, a bass system for frequencies from 20-800 Hz and a tweeter system for frequencies from 800-20,000 Hz. The two systems are electrically coupled by a network. The bass system is connected to the rear sound inlet openings via a long detour for low frequencies: na effect (increased transmission of bass frequencies when the meeting is close) no longer occurs; the sound image is completely independent of the distance to the sound source.
The tweeter system has a small sound detour; the cardioid polar pattern is retained up to the highest frequencies. Cardioid polar pattern means the D224 is most sensitive to sound coming from the front, while having little response to sound coming from behind. The distribution of the transmission range over two converters ensures a linear frequency response of 20-20,000 Hz. Due to the low mass of the high-frequency membrane, the D224 shows excellent transient/decay behavior. The bass range can be lowered with a switch (-7, -12 dB at 50 Hz). Both systems have a compensation coil against magnetic interference.

Applications: Generally particularly suitable for percussive signals: snare drum, hi-hat, grand piano and piano (pop music), organ, Leslie, tweeters in general.
