Description

The TRP500 is the first product in our 3rd generation of mic preamps. It is rather neutral, but differs from other "clean" preamps in its rich and musical tonal character. Optimized for ribbon microphones, the TRP500 offers up to 85 dB of gain. Like all AEA products, the TRP500 is 100 percent hand built in Pasadena, California from locally sourced parts. AEA is a family business with a small crew of skilled technicians, many of whom are musicians themselves.

AEA preamps
Passive ribbon microphones have a low output level. That's why they need a powerful preamp that amplifies the microphone signal accordingly while delivering high, pristine sound quality. Otherwise, the microphone signal may appear too soft or be noisy, for example when recording quiet acoustic guitars or strings. An effect that is even more noticeable when the microphone is farther away from the signal source or when there are long cable runs.
