The portable TELEFUNKEN Ela V504 vintage 4-channel tube mixer was presented for the first time in 1954. The desk was designed as a light and portable device for outdoor broadcasts or for use in an broadcast vehicle from ARD / ZDF. With a weight of only 12kg and its very compact case dimensions, the TELEFUNKEN ELA V504 was unrivaled at its time. The built-in tube types are: ECC81 ECC81 ECC81 EC92 EM80 and EL41.

We changed the signalflow in the desk as described at the bottom. Functionality and signal flow without the mod was: The four channels are fed via a three-pin large tuchelconnector and share a mono sum. The mono sum is available at three outputs. Each has an individual potentiometer for level adjustment. From there the balanced signal (a and b without a shield) leaves the desk . The fifth large Bakelite knob is another input for one of three sources that can be selected via a rotary switch. We tested the desk and found no errors. Even the magic eye and the internal loudspeaker, which can be used as a command microphone, works perfectly. In a modern studio environment, this 4 (or7) into 1 (or 3) channel mono mixer can e.g. be used as a very high quality and extremely good sounding microphone preamplifier. The total gain is 70dB and is therefore similar to that of the famous Telefunken V76m tube amplifier which appeared a few years later. The mixer’s built-in tube equalizer sounds absolutely fantastic and makes this very rare piece even more unique.

Weight: 12 kg / 26 lb 6.9 oz (26.432 lb)

The mixer has been completely checked by us and all issues found have been eliminated. It works fine. We have now added the modification.

EDIT: We have now modified the desk like its predecessor in the Youtube video.
1. Channels 1-4 have individual outputs via mu-metal shielded Haufe transformers which we have retrofitted. The amplification here is 34 dB. Just like the V72. Each channel can be switched to the sum with a retrofitted toggle switch and then goes through the second and third amplifier stage with additional tube Eq-ing.
2. The master bus is mono and has 2 additional tubes installed. You get an overall gain of 70 dB via the bus plus the very sweet sounding tube EQ.
What you get is effectively 1x V76 amplification, 3x V72 amplification using a Telefunken tube mixer from the same decade. This modification makes the mixer much more interesting than a 4:1 mono mixer for most users.
