Neumann M49b vintage tube microphone

We are offering a rare and very well-preserved Neumann M49b tube microphone from the 1950s. We mediate it on behalf of the customer. The microphone is currently located in the USA and will be delivered as shown.

The Neumann M49 was the first studio microphone with continuously variable directional characteristics. It was developed by Northwest German Broadcasting (NWDR) and first appeared in 1949 in a small series of around 30 units under the model name B-M49. The microphone was manufactured by neumann Berlin from 1951 on and was used in all german public radio and television studios for many years. The M49 used the same large-diaphragm capsule as the U 47 and is now one of the most sought-after tube microphones of all time. Equally popular in pop, rock, jazz and classical music, the M49 / M49b always delivers a very warm, round sound with a beautiful top end. The first microphones came with an M7 capsule and a Hiller tube. Later the Telefunken AC701k tube was used. The Neumann M7 capsule was installed until 1958. In 1958, the M7 was replaced by the K49,. Manufacturing period: 1951-1974, since 2022 (M49v).
